We’ve made quite a few references to the latest Limited Edition T-Shirt we have been preparing to release and as many of you know, the graphic is inspired by the soccer and punk scenes of London in the late 1970’s. We have always wanted to do something based on this time, but we wanted to make sure that we got it right before putting it out there.
When we first started talking with collaboration partner Nick Egan, we always came back to the punk scene that he was heavily into and how he would go to Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea games. Nick would go into detail about the areas in the stadium that the “punks” would stand in, the importance of the Shed End and the overall feeling that was sweeping London at that time. Even stories when he was working with bands like The Clash and how they would leave the recording studio in the middle of a session to head over to an abandoned playground to knock the ball around, while making executives from the record label join in with them.
And in the end we tried to capture those vibes and the true essence of that time within this graphic.
The artwork depicts the classic silhouette of a punk standing in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge, set against the backdrop of the rest of the terrace. And while this graphic is somewhat abstract, we wanted to incorporate the two cultures in as natural a setting as possible while leaving something to the imagination.
Below, a Limited Edition woven label that we added to the corner of the shirt.
Along with the shirt, we are also including a Poster of the graphic that features a quote from Chris Sullivan (who was co-author of the book “Punk”, party promoter / club owner in London and a soccer fan that happens to be one of Nick’s very good friends).
“Punk should be remembered if only to illustrate how influential a small group of people can be.”
That quote stuck with us because it reminded us how influential soccer fans can be due to our love and passion for the game, while giving this collaboration the final “tip of the hat” to the soccer / punk theme.
We hope you enjoy the shirt and the poster as much as we enjoyed putting it all together.
